The Bet Collector (English title)

I was walking at the Salamanka Arts Center and I was surprise, The Philippines “Gina Pareno” posed for the review screening of the above mentioned movie. Her character named “AMELITA”.

Amelita is known in the slums of Manila as “Amy”, an uncanny sales woman with a knack for cajoling people into parting with their money by placing bets on Jueteng, illegal numbers games --- a lottery, a game of chance. While her disabled husband stays on the couch watching TV, she is caught u in an endless cycle of poverty, corruption and evading the police. Amy’s morning prayers of ‘I hope I don’t get caught today’ mingle her fervent religious beliefs with her superstitions. Finding meaning in numbers everywhere, for Amy, survival and life are gamble. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The movie actually won the prize-winner at last years Moscow Film Festival, hmm isn’t it interesting? This is one of the best thing we can portray our culture to the world.

Aussies find it nice, some senseless… It’s a nice movie. It cost me $20 for that, but worth watching.
